Seventeen Years Ago Today

We stood in the middle of a Redwood park

surrounded by trees,  friends, and children,

and made promises to each other

that we continue to keep and honor.

There have been storms of tears,

clouds of anger and moments of hate…

We have been battered by fate’s winds,

tossed about by problems,

stung by words,

but we continued sailing together

holding tight

to keep the love between us

alive and nourishing.

We have done well,

and our love is even stronger now

than it was then.

Let us continue to grow together,

so that our love makes small

the crises that may still lie ahead.

I love you more today

than then.
